Getting Started with Shining Light Technologies Software

Follow these steps to get started using the Shining Light Technologies software:

  1. Update your information in the Directory
  2. Add your church members and other contacts (regular attenders, occasional attenders, prospects, etc) to the Directory. The easiest way to do this is to import the entire list of contacts at once. If you add people to the Directory manually, add the head of household first (usually husband), since a family will be automatically created with the name of the head of household. When you add the other people in the family, you can select the family from the “Choose a Family” drop down list at the top of the page, and the home phone and address will be pre-populated, which will save you quite a bit of time.
  3. Learn how to search the directory and download subsets of the directory to create mailing lists.
  4. Set up the initial set of Groups (e.g. Sunday School, Deacons’ Lists, etc). Some common groups are already created.
  5. Add people to the Group Rosters.
  6. Print attendance forms to start taking attendance (e.g. for Sunday School).
  7. Start using the Group Scheduler to schedule volunteers for nursery, toddlers, etc.
  8. Set up the mobile version of the software on your mobile device and familiarize yourself with the common mobile features (e.g. click-to-call, click-to-map, mobile attendance).
  9. Decide what postal codes you want to start with for Door-to-Door Visitation. Add these postal codes to the Outreach module. A list of streets will be imported for each postal code within 24 hours.
  10. Start adding visitors to your church into the system, and generate follow-up visits.
  11. Start tracking decisions (salvation, baptism, etc) in the Outreach component.
  12. Start generating and assigning visits in the Outreach component.
  13. Browse the summary reports available under the Admin module and decide which summary reports to provide to the senior pastor periodically.
  14. Decide whether to upload sermons and other resources using the Resources module.
  15. Add church supported missionaries to the Missionaries module.
  16. Decide whether to use the Calendar module to track upcoming events.
  17. Decide whether to use the Giving module to track giving.
